The Skills Hub highly commended at the TES Awards
The Skills Hub was highly commended at this year’s prestigious TES School Awards. This is the second year in a row that the school has made the shortlist, and it was up for two awards – the Pupil Mental Health Initiative of the Year category and the Best Use of Technology.
Principal Paul Chambers, said, “We were delighted that our work to embed the use of VR experiences as a technique to calm students and improve mental health, was highly commended in this year’s awards. It is testament to the hard work and vision of the team that this initiative has received such recognition.”
Assistant Principal Pouname Khaira led on the nominations and explained how many of the students struggle with emotional dysregulation, which directly impacts their ability to engage in learning. She said, “VR provides an immersive, calming environment where students can self-regulate before or after stressful situations. Guided mindfulness sessions, virtual nature walks, and relaxation experiences have helped students manage anxiety, reduce outbursts, and return to class in a focused state.”
Since 2009, the TES awards celebrate excellence across the whole education sector in one inclusive national event in London.
