The Skills Hub is extremely proud to share the outcome of their comprehensive Section 5 Inspection, conducted at the beginning of March. The report has just been published and the school has been graded Good in all areas with inspectors praising the plentiful opportunities for pupils, many of whom have previously experienced fragmented attendance and learning records.

The glowing report highlighted the school’s high expectations for pupils’ achievement and behaviour and the hard work of staff to make these ambitions a reality:

‘The school encourages pupils to follow their interests and develop their talents. As a result, many pupils achieve accredited awards in a range of academic, vocational and practical subjects.’

Inspectors recognised the positive relationships between pupils and staff and the positive impact this has ensuring pupils feel safe:

‘Staff skillfully support pupils to manage their own behaviour. This helps them to learn effectively and gain independence. As a result, there is a calm purposeful atmosphere around the school.’

It especially noted the skill of staff in ensuring the curriculum was adapted to the needs of individual learners making sure pupils are given the knowledge and understanding to be confident learners and achieve success:

‘Careers advice is woven carefully into the curriculum. Staff work relentlessly to explore possible career pathways. This includes identifying aspirational work placements and training opportunities for pupils.’

It also praised the careful planning of opportunities throughout the curriculum to enhance pupils’ personal development including the skills needed for adulthood:

‘Pupils develop leadership skills and positive character traits though roles such as being members of the student council and participating in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.’

The report noted how school leaders have accurately evaluated the curriculum to reflect changing needs of the pupils and praised the dedication of the staff team:

‘Leaders are driven to ensure the whole school community continues to thrive. Staff are proud to work at the school and share a determination to make a real difference to the lives of pupils and their families.’

Paul Chambers, Principal of The Skills Hub said, “I feel proud of everyone associated with our school’s success. Our students can now officially say that they attend a quality provision where they can truly excel.

Our recent Ofsted report praises the huge amount of work that is undertaken at The Skills Hub to understand our pupils, ensure they feel safe and provide an environment for them to re-engage with education and provide them with pathways to a more positive future.

We will continue to strive to improve pupil outcomes and provide opportunities to give them the tools and confidence to succeed in the future.  The journey continues…”
