Congratulations to Bedelsford School and Orchard Hill College led by Ashley Jordan Diaper, who have been shortlisted for two awards with Kingston University’s Ubitech project in the Kingston Borough Business Awards 2021.
The Ubitech project has been a collaboration between the University and the school and explores how you can make everyday technology accessible for young people with disabilities. The students at Bedelsford have been designing four games with two researchers and are working with two undergraduates on new apps around sensory stories and an adaptation to Spotify, the music streaming service.
They are also supporting accessibility around a new sensory library Bedelsford is setting up in Kingston public library. Last year some of the college students helped with the games. We are also looking at using apps to support young people with ASD recognise expressions and decode social cues.
The awards have been organised by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce and the winners will be announced at the beginning of 2022 – fingers crossed!
