OHC&AT Careers & Futures Development Day

Careers Leads from across OHC&AT came together on Friday 20th June for their inaugral Development Day, hosted at OHC&AT’s central office. High quality careers provision is a crucial part of education, and OHC&AT’s Careers Leads are critical in designing and delivering careers provision tailored to the individual needs and aspirations of our pupils and students.

The day provided an opportunity for staff in this key role to come together, exchange knowledge and explore the tools and support available across the sector. We were delighted to be joined by Mike Britland from the Careers Enterprise Company, who delivered a deep dive into Compass Plus, followed by Miyah Wright and Sean O’Sullivan from the South London Career Hub who led a workshop on the Leadership Impact Review.

Amongst other informative discussions, co-chairs Tracy Hicklin (Orchard Hill College) and Lynn Shah (The Link School) led discussions on work experience, employer and family engagement, and impactful ways to meet the Gatsby benchmarks. OHC&AT’s CEO, John Prior, and Deputy CEO, Laurie Cornwell, also dropped by to hear directly from the group about their ideas and priorities for developing careers provision across the Trust.

The Careers & Futures group is just one of OHC&AT’s communities of practice, aimed at linking staff in key roles with peers and promoting knowledge exchange. Alongside regular online meetings throughout the year, in-person development days like this provide valuable time and space for strategic thinking and collaborative working.

Feedback from the day was extremely positive with one attendee describing the event as ‘invaluable’. In fact the day proved such a success that we plan to make it an annual event and are already planning for next year!
