OHC Chair of Trustees awarded a knighthood for services to education
Peter Lauener, Chair of Trustees of Orchard Hill College, has been recognised in His Majesty The King’s birthday honours list in June 2025 for services to education.
Sir Peter has earned this achievement for the contribution he has made in education during his more than 40-year career in the public sector, with a primary focus on the funding and organisation of the education system, and in particular, the post-16 and higher education and skills system.
In addition to his role as Chair at Orchard Hill College, he is Chair of the Construction Industry Training Board, and a trustee of Educators International, a charity working with developing countries to implement system-level education reforms.
Acknowledging the honour Sir Peter says, “I was surprised but delighted to receive this award. In everything I’ve done, I’ve always tried to put learners first, but I know well that it is schools, colleges and training providers who are always first in line in supporting, teaching, training and helping people make the most of their potential. I would like as well to record my thanks to the many great educators, trainers and sector leaders it has been my privilege to work with.”
John Prior, CEO of Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT) said, “We would like to congratulate Sir Peter on his much-deserved accolade and for his dedication to improving the lives of so many young people.”
