MP visits The Skills Hub for UK Parliament Week
Students and staff at The Skills Hub were delighted to welcome Danny Beales MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. The visit coincided with UK Parliament Week and students had the opportunity to learn more about the British political system and how Parliament works.
Members of the School Council took the MP on a tour of the school, and he answered students’ questions which included ‘Did the King get to vote?’ (Answer No, the King and senior members of the royal family do not vote to maintain their political impartiality).
Students also asked the MP, who was elected in July this year and so is still new in the job, what his favourite part of the job is. Mr Beales, MP, said he enjoyed Fridays most when he had the opportunity to work in his constituency and speak to the people that he represents.
Mr Beales spoke about growing up in the local area and attending local schools. He was interested to drop into lessons and find out about what the students had learnt about the House of Commons and the democratic process. He was also interested to speak to students and listen to some of the mock debates that were taking place as part of the UK Parliament Week activities.
Members of the Senior Leadership Team and Principal, Paul Chambers, met with Mr Beales and spoke to him about the current challenges facing the education sector and the compassionate approach taken by the Skills Hub to working with students who attend the school.
UK Parliament Week is an annual event, encompassing a number of activities which include taking part in debates and meeting your local MP. Overall, it was a very positive visit giving students a chance to meet their Member of Parliament and for Mr Beales to gain an insight into the work of the Skills Hub.
