Special Support Assistant with Medical Experience – Required September 2018
Job Details
In addition, working closely with the school nurse, you will be required to ensure that care plans (provided by the School Nurse) are implemented across the school, and be able to respond to pupil medical needs and conditions, and first aid requirements (with training). This will include;
– administering of medication, including emergency medication for seizure management or severe allergy/anaphylaxis
– administering enteral feeds
– supporting children with breathing difficulties including administering oxygen.

Person Specification
As a Special Support Assistant, you will need experience and a willigness to manage children with ASD (both verbal and lower functioning) and SLCN, and have experience of developing and nurturing the play skills of young children, as well as identifying next learning steps.
You will also have the experience and knowledge to supervise/advise staff on care plans and medical needs in the absence of the School Nurse.
The successful candidate will need to have significant medical experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to have an awareness of and to work in accordance with OHCAT policy, with particular attention to the following policies:
– Supporting pupils in school with medical conditions
– Delegation of duty
– Safeguarding and Child Protection
– Health and Safety
– Infection Control
– Health and Wellbeing
You will have a genuine commitment to the education and development of young people with SEN is paramount.
Further Information
The Link caters for pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties, many of whom are on the autistic spectrum. Abilities are wide ranging, varying from pupils who meet cognitive milestones to pupils with complex needs. A belief in person centred teaching is a priority.
