Salary: Scale PS10, £33,619 to £37,289 per annum inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, (FTE £39,438 – £43,744 per annum)
Hours: 36 hours per week, Term Time Only

Chart Wood is a special day/boarding school for boys (105 day pupils and students and 24 boarders) aged 9 to 16 years who have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Some students also have co-existing conditions, such as a specific learning difficulty or a diagnosis of ASD. Staff: student ratios are favourable and support our students to achieve well. Chart Wood School was formed in June 2017 following the amalgamation of two schools, St Nicholas School and Starhurst School. Currently based in Merstham, we are undergoing development with a committed refurbishment and relocation to a site in Dorking, planned for September 2020.
We are seeking to appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead who will work closely with our students and staff across all areas of our provision at Chart Wood School, including residential and off-site work. You will lead an internal safeguarding team to ensure robust management within all areas of safeguarding practice as well as ensuring that all staff are trained and embed the learning from their training into their daily practice.
As the Designated Safeguarding Lead you will also liaise with external stakeholders, debrief staff, deliver training programmes, attend regular meetings, disseminate information and provide updates and plan future training requirements. You will work closely with the Senior Management Team through regular meetings and report back to senior members of the Trust. You will be supported by the Director of Learning Support Services and will analyse data to identify trends with a view to informing and planning future work of the safeguarding provision.
A confident and flexible approach is needed as a means of positively influencing students social, emotional, behavioural and educational development in an environment in which they can feel safe, comfortable, secure and able to work to their full potential. Pupils’ welfare is paramount in all aspects of the job role.
It is essential that you have experience of working with or caring for Children. Working within a school and with children with special educational needs is desirable, however not essential.
