Job Details

You will plan differentiated work to meet the needs of individuals and groups promoting progression, continuity and quality of learning by having clear intentions for children’s learning and by using your knowledge of school policies and National Curriculum requirements. You will support the pastoral needs of the pupils, creating a safe nurturing space within your classroom that allows pupils to grow as people and develop a positive sense of self concept and positive self-esteem.

Person Specification

You should hold Qualified Teacher Status (or QTS anticipated or prepared to study/achieve QTS or equivalent) and have successful experience of working with pupils with SEN in either a mainstream or special setting.

Chart Wood is a special school for boys aged 9 to 16 years who have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Some students also have co-existing conditions, such as a specific learning difficulty or a diagnosis of ASD.  Staff: student ratios are favourable and support our students to achieve well. Chart Wood School was formed in June 2017 following the amalgamation of two schools, St Nicholas School and Starhurst School. Currently based in Merstham we are undergoing development with a committed refurbishment and relocation to a site in Dorking, planned for September 2020.

Chart Wood school adopts a therapeutic approach, allied to the nurture principles, to create a safe and supportive environment where pupils can and do achieve. Pupils follow a personalised programme of study, allied to the national curriculum, that takes into account their strengths and passions and presents their learning in a meaningful, accessible and engaging way.
