Parents and Carers are invited to a School Information Evening on Thursday 23rd May 2024.

At the end of the listening period, we will produce a summary of responses received, and we will address and respond to any concerns raised. This summary will be published on the school’s website.

Orchard Hill College Academy Trust (OHCAT) currently operates Carew Academy – URN: 139722, DfE number: 319/7001. Carew Academy is a special school that caters for 230 students aged 7-19 with a wide range of ability levels and additional learning needs, including complex needs.

In April 2016, OHCAT submitted a Free School bid with the intention of closing the current school in order to create a new school that extends the age range to 5-19, and to increase the capacity to 246. The Orchard Hill Special Free School (Sutton) bid, as it was called then, was approved by the DfE in September 2016. A Section 10 Public Consultation took place between Wednesday 8 May 2019 to Tuesday 25 June 2019, which was in support (i.e. 63% of respondents) of the proposed closure and the opening of a new Free School, with the same designation.

The new school, which will retain the name of Carew Academy, is currently being built on the site of Sheen Way Playing Fields, Wallington. Completion is expected in December 2024; however, the current Carew Academy will not be ready to move from their existing site to the new school site until April 2025.
