Addington Valley Academy achieves the Wellbeing Award for Schools
Addington Valley Academy are delighted to announce that they have achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools. This achievement signifies that they are making significant strides toward increasing awareness of mental health and wellbeing among all school stakeholders, including staff, pupils, and parents.
The Award Verifier was thrilled to recommend AVA for the Wellbeing Award saying, “Congratulations on the range of support that you have put in place for staff, families and learners. This is truly a special school.”
Here are some of the other amazing comments in the verification report:
“Wellbeing is clearly at the heart of everything that AVA does and I understand that even the building was carefully designed with the needs of ASD learners in mind.”
“The school is constantly striving to ensure that all students are able to make choices and communicate their feelings and needs in a way that best suits them, be that verbally, thorugh adult advocation, PECS or Makaton.”
“The farm is a recent addition to the school and a huge hit with the school community. The animals can be calming for both learners and staff alike and caring for the animals teachers care for living creatures.”
“Stakeholders referred to AVA as a ‘family’ …Staff mentioned the family atmosphere where they feel they can reach out to SLT and colleagues when in need.”
“Some parents describe the support they get from staff as being life-changing. The support goes beyond the school gate to ensure that learners are as ready to learn as possible and that families are able to support their young people effectively. This all contributes to the wellbeing of learners and their families.”
